Assisting with Architectural Model

Assisting with Architectural Model of a Church / Cathedral for Ascendam UK

This was some employment for a week or so followed by volunteering as an assistant to help hit deadlines when the budget ran out on a project to design an architectural model to be sent to Nigeria to help acquire funding for the building of a church / cathedral.I came in fairly late in the project mainly there to help them hit their deradline as was over budget.

I helped sand and shape various minor parts, make the silicon mould and fast casts for steps, helped with an organ, did various sanding and other help. Common tasks involved lots of filing, filling, sanding smooth spots all over sections of the model to perfect it, looking for flaws to fill, Sanding small acrylic components to fit perfectly very accurately.

In many cases I designed my own tools out of scraps such as a circular step scraping and filling tool. Most of the time this had to be done by hand with hand files and wet and dry paper as power tools would just melt the components or break them and were not fine tuning enough.

Sculpting Moulding, Fast Casting, Filling, Painting Sanding Stairs

One section I remember getting involved with was making stair sections after making a ‘sculpt’ from foam board.
Part of the volunteering deal was lessons in silicon moulding and casting. Lots of filler and fine hand sanding work was involved here too. I also remember working on the organ piece.  I only did a small part of the model and helped remove imperfections.
