Kit Bashing the Top and Bonding Problems

Following George Lucas policy of showing how things work, the tech and mechanics, the pipe work, grease and dirt kit bashing was designed to show data and power communicating around the top.

PC CPU heat sinks where used as flat components, with heat sink parts and what look like control Panels. I used Plastazote split rods to simulate cables.

At first components were superglued, but it was found that as the lid flexed, the superglued component the bond would break. This rendered superglue bonds useless.

Kit Bash Bonding Problem Solution

Firstly, I sandwiched a 5mm layer of Plastazote foam, contacted glued to the component and lid surface.

This provided a degree of flexibility and elasticity to the bond so the foam would absorb the lid bending as well as impact shocks.

I then drilled holes for riveting to hold the components in place though the component, foam and lid in addition to the contact glue bonds.
